On Jan, 24 the 7th Summit of CELAC hosted in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the leftist bloc presidents and organizations of Latin America met to discuss international political issues and shared projects, along with welcoming back Brazil into the conference.

For three years Brazil was unable to send participants to the conference, but after the recent election for Lula to become president, Brazil is back into the regional strategy.

In addition to Argentine President Alberto Fernández and Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Bolivian President Luis Arce, Chilean President Gabriel Boric, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Honduran President Xiomara Castro, Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, among others, came to the conference.

“Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was set to travel to the Summit, but amid threats by far-right leaders in Argentina, he was forced to cancel his participation.”

Along with “The Broad Front, the Evita Movement, the Communist Party, La Cámpora, the Argentine Workers ‘Central Union (CTA) and the Autonomous Central Union of Argentine Workers (CTA Autonoma), are among the Argentine organizations organizing the summit. Organizations such as Descamisados, Populismo K, the Network of Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity, the American Association of Jurists, the Juan Perón National Current and Espacio Puebla, among others” participated.

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, or CELAC is meeting today despite the reactionary incursions on Argentina's VP, to discuss their ongoing plans to solidify CELAC as the official regional integration organization in Latin America. Currently that organization that holds oppressive and illegitimate authority as the regional network of Latin America is the OAS, the Organization of American States; this western organization has long acted in the interest of western imperialism, working to destabilize Hati’s political balance, supporting and organizing the coup against Evo Morales in 2019, and forcefully establishing the economic priorities and social tones in most Latin American nations.

The OAS has long overstayed it’s welcome. So moving forward the 33 member states of CELAC will continue to organize to accomplish their shared mission to consolidate peace and democracy within their countries and among one another, and coordinate to resolve “hunger and poverty, health, education, sustainable development, climate change, among others.”

This meeting will also lay out strategies and campaigns to effectively confront imperialism in their nations, push back on reactionary extremism, and promote sovereignty among their people. A new continent is in the horizon, made out of the collective effort of Latin American nations working together for their mutual survival and prosperity.
