The Dawn is Arising: The resistence of the Peruvians against the coup

In the passing days, Peru remains enthralled in a violent stalemate, the people’s mobilizations are intensifying while the conservative state escalates their project to cement their coup and repress the popular organs of the people from resisting. In recent news, the state hiked up Castillo’s intended prison time to 18 months and continued to stand by his dismissal from office to be appropriate, apparently when he dissolved the Congress, he demonstrated his “permanent moral incapacity”.

And to top off the cherry of the fascist takeover, Castillo’s Vice-President Dina Boluarte has been vowed into office as the new president, by decree of the Congress.

Although times seem dire, the people’s movement and their popular organs remain steadfast in their pursuit to resist this right-wing incursion; the announce that they will maintain the civil unrest until the state returns Castillo’s freedom and restoration as the president, as we speak their working to subvert the Congress for having carried out a parliamentary coup against him.

Thousands of people are protesting and organizing roadblocks and strikes all over the national territory, pushing their campaign against the paramilitary forces, the Congress, and the recently made “president” of Peru; despite she was Castillo’s second hand, the people are “condemning her for criminalizing social protests, unleashing brutal repression, and entering into a political alliance with the right-wing to govern and forming a “government of unity” with them.” (People’s Dispacth)

Even despite the 30-day-long state of emergency announced by the state, “protests demanding Castillo’s immediate release and reinstatement continue, and unfortunately so does the death toll from the repression of protests, rising to 21.”

“In capital Lima, thousands demonstrated in front of the Congress, as well as near the headquarters of the Directorate of Special Operations (DIROES), where Castillo was detained. In the early hours of December 16, he was transferred to the Barbadillo prison.”

So many strikes and demonstrations are happening in the country, international leader like Venezuela's Maduro are calling for the release of Castillo, saying “We have taken a step to classify what took place in Peru as a coup, we will go to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) so that the rights of the people and Professor Pedro Castillo are respected,” said Maduro during the ALBA-TCP Summit, on behalf of all member countries.

Hope remains in the hearts of the Peruvians in the face of their dying democracy in the state. All sectors of society are conglomerating to share in the fight for Castillo’s release, which has been elevated to a point of unity representing democracy, Justice, and freedom in Peru; the people want to remain free citizens and not fall under the rule of another Fujimori. Different Indigenous and peasant communities, popular movements, social organizations, student associations, and trade unions, including agrarian, construction workers and teachers' unions, are mobilizing demanding respect for their vote and pressing their demands. Despite the current conditions at the moment may not be in people’s favor, as MAS in Bolivia showed us in 2019, the masses can and will overcome this coup. It is only a matter of time.
